MAX.ng, Nigeria’s first on-demand motorcycle platform, has launched in Akure, Ondo State.

The launch was fast-tracked by the partnership between the Ondo State Government and Max.NG under the “SUNSHINESAFEBIKES” initiative.

Making the announcement via their Twitter account @maxdotng, the motorcycle ride-hailing taxi startup tweeted: “In a bid to provide safe, affordable and accessible transportation to 1 billion Africans, we are delighted to announce that MAX Okada has successfully launched in Akure! We can’t wait to get you to your destinations safely.”

The Governor of Ondo State, Rotimi Akeredolu in his tweet from his handle @RotimiAkeredolu said: “When Max reached out to us with their intent to launch, we promised them our utmost support under one condition; that they brand their service and partner with the state in instilling a culture of safe riding. Now residents can ride safely. Ride On MAX!

“Welcome to Akure MAX. Thank you for Partnering with us to launch . My Government embraces new and innovative businesses like yours and will continue to support your growth in the Sunshine State. I am looking forward to your expansion to our other big cities.”

This expansion comes off the recent $7 million funding round, Max.NG raised from an elite group of strategic and financial investors from the US, Europe, Asia, and Africa.

Adetayo Bamiduro, MAX.ng CEO and Co-founder, said about the investment: “MAX is building technology infrastructure and financial services to make mobility safe, affordable and accessible to 1 billion Africans. This isn’t just about building mobile apps. It is about creating financial, technology and operating infrastructure where it never existed.”

MAX.ng’s expansion to Akure marks the first foray of a motorcycle ride-hailing startup outside Lagos and also intensifies the competition in the ride-hailing space in Nigeria where Gokada, Opay, and Safeboda are battling one another for market dominance and share.
