The 2020 AfricaHacks Global Hackathon, an initiative that enables participants to grow their idea into a startup or business concept rapidly, has opened for applications.

Uchi Uchibeke, Founder of AfricaHacks says the aim of the event is to “enables rapid Startup creation by providing tools for team formation, user-centered product development, and peer and mentor feedback. The AfricaHacks Global Hackathon is the first time that Africa will meet the world in the cloud to learn, innovate, and launch startups.”

Taking place virtually from 5 – 12 December, the AfricaHacks Global Hackathon will allow participants to gain insight from founders, business executives, and tech leaders.

The hackathon

Participants from across the world can apply online to take part in the hackathon.

Selected participants will undergo the seven-day hackathon that is aimed at creating a startup from their idea with support from the organiser’s team and mentors, workshop leaders, speakers, and judges from over 20 countries across the world.

Gaining expert and valuable advice, participants will be able to take their concept idea to the next level, creating an innovative tech-based business that can provide a useful solution to a pressing problem.

Winners of the innovation challenge will receive $500 000 in cash and prizes along with a place in the AfricaHacks Startup Programme.

Uchibeke explains that the hackathon provides budding entrepreneurs with a chance to get their foot in the door and create their concept idea into a business while being equipped with valuable business skills and tools.

“Often, brilliant ideas are not implemented because those who think of them do not have the resources or time to launch them. With the AfricaHacks platform. At the 2020 AfricaHacks Global Hackathon, anyone can launch a Startup from their ideas and also win prizes and support worth hundreds of thousands of dollars.”

The AfricaHacks Startup Programme aims to grow the selected participant’s idea into a fully-fledged and investor-ready startup.

AfricaHacks aims to provide opportunities to African youth in the field of tech companies and entrepreneurship.
