Another end of the week, another set of Twitter trends. Since today is Sunday, let us say a little prayer-may almighty God permit us to see more weekdays and weekends! Amin!

Of course, you already know, there is never a dull moment on Nigerian Twitter. Without further ado, here are the hot trends for last week!

#HushpuppiArrest

Nigerians got more insights into the fraudulent activities of Ramon Olorunwa Abbas aka Hushpuppi after the Dubai police released footage confirming his arrest. He was arrested alongside 11 others. Among them was Olalekan Ponle, aka Woodberry. Hushpuppi and his gang committed fraud amounting to 1.6 billion dirhams (N168bn). Police seized items worth more than 150 million Dirhams from the gang after taking possession of 21 personal computers, 47 smartphones, 15 flash drives, and 5 hard disks. The Dubai police also disclosed that 1, 926, 400 victims were allegedly scammed by Hushpuppi and his gang.

Daddy Freeze

Still related to Hushpuppi, a video emerged during the week showing Ifedayo Olarinde aka Daddy Freeze, having dinner with the internet fraudster. In the video, Hushpuppi claimed he pays his driver 700k and his cleaner 250k. Daddy Freeze remarked in the video “Instead of make you beg Hushpuppi make him use your papa do driver…Nigerians did not spare Daddy Freeze as they dragged the radio presenter who is popular for slamming pastors whom he accused of preying on common Nigerians who fund their lifestyle through tithes.

6 Nigerians

Again fraud-related- 6 Nigerians were declared wanted by the American Federal Bureau of Investigations (FBI) for their involvement in business email compromise (BEC) schemes resulting in over $6 million in losses. The Nigerians are: Richard Izuchuckwu Uzuh, Alex Afolabi Ogunshakin, Felix Osilama Okpor, Abiola Ayorinde Kayode, Nnamdi Orson Benson, and Michael Olorunyomi. What perhaps angered Nigerians was that Nigerians on the list were used has fraud poster boys despite the fact that there are 6 Russians, 20 Chinese, and 37 men of Arabic descent. If you are involved in internet fraud, please STOP!

DSTV

Some Nigerians appear not to be happy with DSTV as they demanded the digital TV network to introduce Pay AS YOU GO (PAYG) or PAY PER VIEW in Nigeria. A user with the handle @Morris_Monye called out DSTV on this.

Access Bank

Access Bank would be wondering what hit them this weekend as Nigerians dragged the bank that recently acquired Diamond Bank. They accused Access Bank of indiscriminate deduction of stamp duty.
