Digital Lab Africa

Digital Lab Africa (DLA) has opened the application for African creatives to be part of its 2020 accelerator program.

Digital Lab Africa is the first platform dedicated to creative content (immersive realities, video game, animation, music, digital art) linked with innovation in Africa.

The very idea of Digital Lab Africa is to incubate emerging talent by offering them a springboard to fast track the development of their projects with the support and expertise of DLA creative industries ecosystem in France and in Sub-Saharan African countries.

The Digital Lab Africa call for applications is open to anyone from the field of digital content creation: artists, producers, designers, start-ups, SMEs, collectives, students or entrepreneurs, based in Sub-Saharan Africa or a national of a country in this region.

The call targets innovative digital content from the perspective of form, storytelling and technologies used in one of these 5 categories: immersive realities, gaming, music, animation and digital art.

The objective of Digital Lab Africa is to provide a springboard to creators and to make their project happen with the support of French & Sub-Saharan African leading companies in the creative industries.

The applications are reviewed by the DLA Selection Committees based on criteria of creativity, artistic/technical quality, technological aspect and potential.

Created in 2016, Digital Lab Africa is an initiative of the French Institute and the French Embassy in South Africa, managed by the South African innovation hub, Tshimologong Digital Innovation Precinct since 2018. The program is supported by the Agence française de développement (AFD), SACEM, TRACE, TV5 Monde Afrique and a number of French and Sub-Saharan African partners.

Selected applicants are granted DLA Incubation Pass to fast track the development of their project. Alongside mentorship and training sessions, the DLA cohort #4 will be hosted in residency in France and also attend industry events such as Annecy Animation festival, Newimages, Paris Games Week or Les Nuits Sonores in France or in Sub-Saharan African region like Fak’ugesi African Digital Innovation Festival.
