TLcom Capital, the Africa-focused venture capital firm, has appointed Eloho Omame of FirstCheck Africa as a partner to scout and back more innovative pre-seed and female-owned startups.

Before now, TLcom Capital was largely focused on investing funds in seed to Series B with a handful of pre-seed startups in its portfolio. This will no longer be the case with Omame joining as a partner.

Meet Eloho Omame

Omame had worked variously as an investment banker and private equity investor. She was also the founding Managing Director of Endeavor Nigeria, the Nigerian chapter of the global network of the elite entrepreneur support network, Endeavor Global. She has more than 20 years of experience in investing and business leadership, including time at General Atlantic, FirstBank Nigeria and Credit Suisse

In January last year, Omame and Piggyvest’s Odunayo Eweniyi, co-founded FirstCheck Africa, a female-focused early-stage venture capital firm that has already invested in 10 female-founded or co-founded tech startups including Pivo, Akiba Digital and Healthtracka, to mention a few.

“When I think about my career, I think it is important that I am part of an investment team and a partnership that is Dubai quality of complementary, has an initial alignment in terms of how we think about the work of investing, company building and entrepreneurial support in Africa,” Omame said. “It is exciting to be invited to join this partnership.” She will combine her new responsibilities at TLcom Capital with her current work at FirstCheck Africa.

“The VC ecosystem [in Africa] is maturing… We want to make sure that we continue to have a meaningful position and that means having high-quality deal flow.”~ Maurizio Caio, founder and Managing Partner at TLcom.

Ido Sum, TLcom Partner described it as “more concentrated.” He admits that working closely with founders as they build their businesses may not work for other VCs, but notes that supporting the entrepreneur’s building journey rather than financing is how TLcom prefers to operate.
