Microsoft has released Windows 11, it’s the latest Operating System. The OS comes with exciting new features that will offer its global pool of users a much faster experience.

Windows 11 will be rolled out later this year and will be available to users who can upgrade their devices for free with the correct hardware requirements. Check out the top five features of this new OS.

New Microsoft Store

Microsoft unveiled a brand new Microsoft Store for Windows 11 apps. Interestingly, Microsoft won’t be taking any cut of sales made via its new app store.

New design and Start Menu

Microsoft’s new Windows 11 design isn’t a radical overhaul. Regardless, there are a couple of changes that will be immediately apparent to anyone who upgrades from Windows 10. Many of the new design features are brought over from Windows 10X, Microsoft’s now-canceled project that sought to optimize Windows 10 for dual-display devices.

The major change to the Windows 11 UI itself is the new Start Menu. And the first thing you’ll observe is that Live Tiles are now gone, and with them go the last remaining memory of Windows 8. The new Start Menu in Windows 11 basically looks like a smartphone OS launcher with an extra section for recent documents. Apps can be found at the top, with recent documents and a dedicated search bar located beneath them.

Performance improvements and optimisations

Among the new technology that will help boost performance is DirectStorage, which is already available on the Xbox Series X and Xbox Series S. You’ll need one of the latest NVMe drives to take advantage of this particular feature, but it should result in a dramatic reduction in load times on Windows 11.

Improved multitasking experience

Windows 11 also brings new Snap Layouts, Snap Groups and Desktops to offer a better way to multitask. “These are new features designed to help you organise your windows and optimise your screen real estate so you can see what you need just the way you want in a layout that’s visually clean,” Microsoft said in a blog post. Users will also be able to create separate Desktops and customise them to their liking. For example, you can have a Desktop for work, gaming or school.

Android apps on Windows

Microsoft is introducing Android apps to Windows for the first time. Starting later this year, people will notice Android apps in the Microsoft Store and will be able to download them through the Amazon Appstore. The company has also announced that it will add Adobe Creative Cloud, Disney+, TikTok, Zoom, and some of its native apps like Microsoft Teams, Visual Studio, and even Notepad and Paint to Microsoft Store on Windows 11.
