Connecting your AirPods to your iPhone is pretty straightforward. You have to follow the steps shared in this guide to ensure that AirPods pairs with ease with your iPhone.

But first, you must ensure that your iOS has the latest version which 14.6.

How to update your iOS to the latest version

Before you update, it’s advisable to back up your device using iCloud or your computer to prevent loss of files.

If your computer is using Personal Hotspot on the device that you’re updating, connect your computer to a different Wi-Fi or Ethernet network before you update.

  1. On your PC, open iTunes. If you don’t have iTunes, download it.
  2. Connect your device to your computer.
  3. Open your iTunes and locate your device
  4. Click General or Settings, then click Check for Update. 
  5. Click Download and Update. Do not interrupt the download to avoid errors.
  6. If asked, enter your passcode.

How to connect or pair your AirPods with your iPhone

  1. Go to the home screen of your iPhone
  2. With your AirPods in the charging case, open the charging case, and hold it next to your iPhone. A setup animation will appear on your iPhone.
  3. Tap Connect
  4. Tap Done and your AirPod will be connected to your device.
  5. If you’re signed in to iCloud, your AirPods are set up automatically with any of your supported devices that are signed in to iCloud with the same Apple ID.
  6. When you are done, simply put the AirPods in its charging case.

Possible reasons your AirPods may not connect with your iPhone

  1. Make sure that your iOS device has the latest compatible software.
  2. Open Control Center on your iPhone, and make sure that Bluetooth is on.
  3. Put both AirPods in the charging case and make sure that both pieces are charging.
  4. Close the lid, wait 15 seconds, then open the lid. Press and hold the setup button on the case for up to 10 seconds. The status light should flash white, which means that your AirPods are ready to connect.
