The president of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari has approved the free registration of business names for 250,000 MSMEs nationwide by the Corporate Affairs Commission.

Buhari who made the announcement on the official Twitter handle of the Presidency said the move was to support MSMEs.

The break down of the free registration as per states are as follows: 7,906 in FCT; 9,084 in Lagos; 8,406 in Kano, and 6,606 in each of the remaining 34 states.

How to register your Business Name

Aggregators have been appointed to receive applications from interested persons in line with CAC requirements.

The free registrations started on the 19th October 2020 and the list of documents needed to register a business in any of their centres are:

  • Three (3) Proposed Names
  • Two (2) Passport-sized photographs
  • Valid Means of Identification
  • Phone Number/Email address
