Innoson Vehicles Manufacturing (IVM) has revealed plans to launch a ride-hailing service, IVM Connect in Enugu State later this year.

The model that IVM is adopting for its IVM Connect is hire purchase where drivers do not need to bring along their own cars to sign on for the ride-hailing service. The drivers work for IVM and have the option of paying in installments for the car within two years.

This is different from how Uber and Bolt operates. Drivers on these platforms have to bring along their cars before they are they can work with the aforementioned ride-hailing companies.

In preparation for the launch of the ride-hailing service, Innoson Motors has advertised vacancies for professional drivers on its Twitter handle.

Throwing more light on the upcoming launch of IVM Connect, Head of Corporate Communications, Cornel Osigwe disclosed that 200 IVM hatchback vehicles from its Nnewi manufacturing plant in Anambra state are ready to be rolled out when IVM Connect launches in early October. She added that plans are in the pipeline to expand to other states in Eastern Nigeria including Owerri by adding 5,000 vehicles to its existing fleet within one year of launching IVM Connect.

To make the operation of IVM Connect smooth, IVM said it is partnering with the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) for the purpose of recruitment, training, and issuing necessary licenses to qualified drivers.

Meanwhile, to onboard the prospective drivers. IVM has outsourced drivers’ registration and selection processes to a job recruitment company. In addition, IVM is developing a mobile app named IVMCruise.
