Uber, the ride-hailing giant, in partnership with a fintech startup, Flutterwave; has launched Uber Cash, its digital wallet in Africa.

With this Uber and Flutterwave partnership, riders can now send money to their Uber wallets from Flutterwave’s remittance partners.

Uber Cash will go be available for users this week and next for in South Africa, Kenya,  Nigeria, Uganda and Ghana, Ivory Coast and Tanzania says Alon Lits — Uber’s General Manager for Sub-Saharan Africa.

“Depending on the country, you’ve got different top-up methods available. For example, in Nigeria, you can use your Verve Card or mobile money. In Kenya, you can use M-Pesa and EFT and in South Africa, you can top up with EFT,” said Lits.

Uber Cash is very easy to use especially if you already have your payment details on the app. To use Uber Cash, you simply click on payment, add funds, and then click on a one-time payment. The funds will be automatically added to the Uber Cash account from whichever payment method you select.

Despite this, you can still pay with your ATM card and cash as well.

With Uber Cash launching across Africa, it further bridges the gap between the banked and unbanked and perhaps attracts more riders to Uber which is having a very competition from Bolt.

Uber Cash was launched in 2018.
