Professor Ogundipe Innovation Challenge

Team Solution has been named the winner of the maiden edition of Professor Ogundipe Innovation Challenge recently held at the University of Lagos (Unilag).

Team Solution came up with an anti-theft device designed to safeguard valuables and assist security agencies to authenticate distress calls.

With this innovative idea, Team Solution beat 9 other teams to win N1 million cash price from First City Monument Bank (FCMB), the sponsor of the Professor Ogundipe Innovation Challenge.

The teams were selected from over 500 entries received from students at undergraduate, graduate and postgraduate levels nationwide.

Meanwhile, Team VETA and Team Brickify were named first and second runners up respectively winning N1 million each.

Professor Ogundipe Innovation Challenge is an initiative of the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Lagos (UNILAG), Akoka, Professor Oluwatoyin Ogundipe, as part of his humanitarian activities towards national growth and development

The vice-chancellor said that he introduced the competition to encourage and support scientific creativities and ideas among university students that can help to solve the country’s problems in agriculture, oil and gas, information and communication technology, computer, medicine, and other related fields.

Meet the teams that pitched:

2.) TEAM VETA (Vocational Education Transforming Africa)

Addressing Unemployment: creating an online platform designed to engage in vocational and technical skills training.

3.) TEAM BRICKIFY
Recycling of plastic wastes to provide materials for low-cost housing and construction of roads.

4.) TEAM LOUD MIND

Exhaust Purifier: trapping carbon(iv) oxide in the air and converting the same into carbon fibres, to be used in the construction and manufacture of automobiles.

5.) TEAM NUPE PROJECT

Design of a wireless Ultrasound machine to help reduce issues related to infants in the womb.

6.) TEAM SKYLINE

An industrial innovation to purify water using an activated carbon chitosan phosphate hybrid plant.

7.) TEAM ELABTECH

Smoke purification: a device attached to generators that would render the smoke emitted carbon (ii) oxide free.

8.) TEAM PROBLACK

Energy: creating a decentralized energy distribution system to meet with the energy needs of Nigeria.

9.) Team BSF (Black Soldier Fly)

Use of black soldier flies in organic waste recycling and as an alternative dietary source for animal feeds.

10.) TEAM ZEENAR

LPG (Liquefied Petroleum Gas) MONITOR: an internet-enabled solution device created to monitor gas usages in homes and industries.
