9mobile, Nigeria’s fourth-largest telecom operator, has officially rebranded as T2, marking a major step in its digital transformation strategy aimed at regaining market share and delivering faster, smarter services.
The move follows the company’s acquisition by Lighthouse Telecoms in 2023 and forms part of a four-phase recovery plan — Stabilisation, Modernisation, Transformation, and Growth. The rebrand signals the transition into the Transformation stage.
At the “Tech Meets Tenacity” launch in Lagos, CEO Obafemi Banigbe said T2 represents more than a name change:
“We are evolving into a digital-first brand that understands our customers’ lifestyles and delivers solutions that meet their needs with speed, innovation, and trust.”
The company’s new identity swaps 9mobile’s signature green for a vibrant orange, reflecting energy and creativity. T2 is also investing in cloud-native infrastructure, AI, and data-driven personalisation to enhance customer experience.
As part of its turnaround, T2 has signed a landmark network-sharing agreement with MTN Nigeria, improving nationwide coverage and reliability. The brand also plans aggressive investment in 4G expansion and 5G readiness.
Nigeria’s Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, Bosun Tijani, welcomed the rebrand, urging T2 to match its fresh identity with improved service quality and innovation.
With this move, the firm aims to position itself as a digital lifestyle provider, offering not just voice and data, but fintech, entertainment, and enterprise solutions, targeting a mobile-first generation.
