Pandemics are increasing in frequency and severity, with devastating social and economic costs.

African homegrown solutions (HGS) have the potential to make our continent more resilient to future outbreaks by addressing fundamental gaps in the health systems.

Currently, many of these promising African companies face challenges in scaling, particularly cross-border and into adjacent health-related business lines.

We are launching an acceleration programme for African growth-stage startups and mature stage companies in the healthcare space that can strengthen Africa’s pandemic resilience, in line with the African Union’s Agenda 2063 aspirations

We are:

  • A partnership between the African Union Development Agency (AUDA-NEPAD), Japan International Cooperation Agency (JICA), Boston Consulting Group (BCG), and other leading public and private organizations
  • A committed team with expertise in healthcare, manufacturing, and supporting businesses in Africa
  • Planning to launch our inaugural cohort of HGS in East Africa starting in January 2021
