WHAT IS CORONAVIRUS?

Coronavirus is part of a large family of viruses that may cause illness in animals or humans.

In humans, several coronaviruses are known to cause respiratory infections ranging from the common cold to more severe diseases such as Middle East Respiratory Syndrome (MERS) and Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).

COVID-19 is an infectious disease caused by the most recently discovered coronavirus. This new virus and disease were unknown before the outbreak began in Wuhan, China, in December 2019.

HOW IT SPREADS

Coronavirus disease spreads primarily through contact with an infected person when they cough or sneeze. It also spreads when a person touches a surface or object that has the virus on it, then touches their eyes, nose, or mouth.

HOW TO PROTECT YOURSELF

1.) Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing; going to the bathroom; and before eating or preparing food.

2.) Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.

3.) Stay home when you are sick.

4.) Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash.

5.) Maintain at least 1 meter (3 feet) distance between yourself and anyone who is coughing or sneezing.

6.) Make sure you, and the people around you, follow good respiratory hygiene. This means covering your mouth and nose with your bent elbow or tissue when you cough or sneeze. Then dispose of the used tissue immediately.
